One Pair of Stone Railway Posts with LYR carving.
LYR was used in reference for the title ‘Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway’ which was adopted by the Manchester and Leeds railway system in July 1847. Serving the industrial heart of the North West of England and forming a critical link to the mineral wealth of Yorkshire. The Lancashire and Yorkshire railway grew into a complex and progressive railway system. In a previous lifetime, these posts would have lived along the tracks as mile markers.
