In timber production, “treated” refers to wood that has undergone a chemical preservation process. The timber is placed in a pressure vessel where preservative solution is forced deep into the grain. This treatment protects against moisture, fungi and insects, significantly extending the lifespan of the wood. As a result, these sawn and treated timber planks resist rot and can withstand Britain’s unpredictable weather with ease. Their treated nature makes them far more durable than untreated wooden boards, ensuring they maintain strength and structure over time.
These unused sawn and treated timber planks have sat in storage for a number of years. They show minimal marking, with only slight weathering at the ends from long-term outdoor exposure. Stacked carefully in clean layers, they retain their structural integrity and are ready for reuse. The sawn finish leaves a rougher surface than planed timber, adding to their rustic quality and making them perfect for outdoor or workshop settings.
Using new old stock timber such as these sawn and treated timber planks offers clear benefits. It reduces demand for freshly milled wood, helping conserve forest resources. Reusing existing stock also cuts waste and energy consumption linked to new timber production. Moreover, older planks often feature denser, more stable wood that has naturally seasoned over time. These timber planks provide the durability of new material with the sustainable advantage of reclaimed stock. Whether used for practical construction or creative design, they bring reliability, natural beauty and environmental value to any project.
Use with reclaimed sleepers to create unique furniture and garden features.
