Roll Top Capped Ridge Tiles Blue Clay

These Staffordshire Blue roll top and capped ridge tiles are classic examples of traditional clay roofing. Etruria clay, fired at very high temperatures, creates the distinctive blue colouring and vitrifies the surface to create a frost resistant and waterproof finish. These ridge tiles are tough and durable, more than capable of reuse on an established or new roof.

Roll Top Capped Ridge Tiles Blue Clay 17″-20½” 80-95 Degree

Ridge tiles form the protective crown of a pitched roof and sit along the meeting point of two slopes. They keep rain, wind and debris out of the ridge line while finishing the roof with a clean, defined edge. Capped sections add further protection because they cover the joint fully and stop water tracking under the tile. As a result, they offer improved weather resistance and long-term stability.

These Staffordshire Blue pieces are classic examples of traditional clay roofing. Staffordshire Blue refers to a dense, vitrified clay fired in a low-oxygen atmosphere. This process produces a deep blue colour and remarkable strength. Manufacturers shape and press the wet clay before firing it to create the distinctive hue and hard surface that define Staffordshire Blue roofing. Consequently, these tiles hold their form under harsh weather and suit both heritage restorations and new builds. The Roll Top Capped ridge tiles in this collection show the quality of this famous material across every piece.

The roll top profile adds decorative interest while helping divert water away from the ridge. Demand for this design has grown, yet finding large quantities has become difficult. These Roll Top Capped ridge tiles come from the same roof, which ensures consistent weathering across the set. Environmental discolouration, small patches of lichen and gentle surface marks enhance their natural character. Some tiles have cracked under age and transport, leading to loose or broken sections. However, many clean breaks can be repaired for alternative uses, which keeps these valuable materials in circulation. The presence of eight end caps strengthens the collection, as these items are now increasingly rare.

Blue Roof, Red Roof

The Roll Top Capped ridge tiles sit easily with established terracotta tiled roofs, creating attractive visual contrast. Their weathered finish allows them to settle quickly into any project, whether for restoration or creative reuse.

Choosing reclaimed roofing materials brings practical and environmental benefits. It reduces demand for newly produced clay and keeps high-quality items out of landfill. Reclaimed tiles arrive with proven durability, which increases confidence during installation. This set of Roll Top Capped ridge tiles offers heritage value, sustainable construction benefits and versatile reuse potential in one distinctive collection.
