These reclaimed handmade roof tiles from K G Ltd in Tamworth offer genuine heritage character with dependable performance. Produced in Staffordshire, K G Ltd built a reputation for supplying practical handmade tiles to regional building projects. Their production focused on consistency, durability, and traditional forming methods suited to British architecture.
Terracotta roofing tiles have a long history stretching back over two thousand years. Ancient civilisations shaped clay tiles to protect buildings from sun, rain, and seasonal temperature changes. Over time, fired clay became a trusted roofing material across Europe. Terracotta performs well because it breathes naturally while resisting frost and moisture. Once fired, clay tiles become dense, durable, and capable of lasting for generations. Therefore, terracotta remains a sensible choice for long-term roof coverings.
These tiles are red clay with a sand-faced finish and a traditional double profile. Each tile measures approximately 6 1/2 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches high. As reclaimed handmade roof tiles, they display heavy weathering from decades of exposure. Environmental discolouration softens the red tones across each surface. Patches of lichen and moss sit naturally within the sanded texture. Minor chips and edge marks further highlight their previous use.
This natural ageing allows reclaimed handmade roof tiles to blend seamlessly with existing roofs. They work especially well for repairs, extensions, and careful refurbishments. Matching newer tiles becomes easier because the patina already exists. Alternatively, these tiles contrast neatly with new builds using brick, glass, or steel. The rustic appearance offsets crisp materials and adds visual depth.
Despite their age, the tiles remain structurally sound and fully serviceable. They are ready to deliver many more decades of reliable weather resistance. Choosing reclaimed handmade roof tiles also brings clear environmental benefits. Reusing materials reduces landfill waste and avoids unnecessary new manufacturing. It also preserves the embodied energy already invested in the original firing process.
Additionally, reclaimed handmade roof tiles often offer better value than new alternatives. They provide proven performance without sacrificing visual continuity. Overall, reclaimed roof tiles combine sustainability, durability, and authentic building character.
