This magnificent reclaimed antique granite gate post stands approximately 6 feet tall and weighs a substantial 1000kg. Granite itself is a hard igneous rock formed from cooling magma deep underground. Because of its incredible density, it resists the harsh British weather for centuries without crumbling. Therefore, it remains a perfect material for creating sturdy architectural features.
Our reclaimed granite gate post tapers gently from a wide base to a narrower top. Indeed, the base measures 22 inches wide while the top reaches 14 inches. Historically, builders buried a large portion of this stone to ensure total stability. You can still see the original rusted hinges remaining in place on one side. Moreover, this reclaimed granite gate post is heavily weathered with beautiful areas of lichen and moss. Importantly, such environmental discolouration creates an authentic patina that newly made pieces simply cannot replicate. Furthermore, to accommodate a foundation stone, essential to maintain stability while supporting a heavy gate, the gate post features an angled corner at its base. This clever historical design helped support the post as it held a heavy gate level.
Choosing a reclaimed granite gate post offers several distinct benefits for your landscape project. Firstly, you are repurposing a piece of rural history rather than using new resources. Secondly, the uneven surfaces and worn faces provide instant character to any new installation.
This antique granite gate post is ready to undertake its traditional duties once more. Alternatively, you might use it as an impressive stone totem on a wide lawn. It brings massive visual impact to formal gardens or wild spaces alike. You could even wrap it in trailing foliage for a sense of discovery.
This monolith represents a genuine piece of the past for your home. Using such reclaimed architectural features adds a sense of permanence to your grounds. It grounds the space with a solid, tactile connection to local heritage. Ultimately, this reclaimed gate post provides effortless impact in any setting you choose to place it. Its sheer scale and weight command respect from every visitor.
