Sutton Cottage Wirecut Bricks 3″ Orange Reclaimed

Sutton Cottage Hospital wirecut bricks offer genuine historical character alongside the durability expected from traditional Midlands brick production. This cottage hospital originally opened as a nursing home during 1897 before becoming a small cottage hospital in 1907. Later, in 1948, the hospital joined the NHS and continued serving the local community for many decades. Recent interior refurbishment works carefully reclaimed these bricks after more than 100 years of reliable use.

The hospital expansion completed during 1923 most likely explains the presence of both wirecut and handmade brick types. During this period, construction methods changed rapidly as manufacturers introduced improved production technologies across the brick making industry. Consequently, builders often combined machine made wirecut bricks with older handmade products during extension and refurbishment works. Sutton Cottage wirecut bricks therefore reflect an important transition within early twentieth century British construction practices.

These reclaimed bricks display clear signs of previous use, adding authenticity and individuality to every batch supplied. Mortar remnants, small chips, worn edges, and light discolouration all reflect decades of practical service within the original building. Furthermore, these aged details create visual texture impossible to reproduce using newly manufactured materials. Sutton Cottage wirecut bricks therefore suit restoration projects, period property repairs, garden walls, and reclaimed architectural designs.

Orange Imperial Bricks

Each brick measures 9 1/4 inches long, 4 1/2 inches wide, and 3 inches high. Because these are Imperial sized bricks, builders should consider sizing carefully before beginning construction or repair projects. However, Imperial dimensions remain essential when matching existing masonry within older British buildings and traditional walling.

The distinctive orange colour developed from locally sourced clay used throughout the Birmingham and wider Midlands brick making industry. Kilns located within Handsworth, Yardley, Aston, and Digbeth supplied bricks across a large regional area for generations. As a result, Sutton Cottage wirecut bricks appear frequently throughout Birmingham while remaining common across neighbouring Midlands towns and villages.

Choosing reclaimed building materials also reduces waste and lowers environmental impact within modern construction projects. Reclaimed bricks reduce demand for newly manufactured products, helping conserve energy and valuable natural resources. In addition, Sutton Cottage wirecut bricks preserve genuine architectural history while providing strong and dependable materials for future developments. Their continued condition demonstrates the lasting quality of traditional British brickmaking methods.
