Protect your masonry using these authentic, reclaimed and weathered blue saddleback wall copings sourced from traditional architectural salvage. These historic Staffordshire blue clay units safeguard your brickwork while providing timeless period aesthetics. These blue copings work equally well with reclaimed bricks or natural walling stone.
Historically, Staffordshire blue clay refers to heavy Etruria Marl clay fired at intense temperatures in low-oxygen kilns. Consequently, this specialized process vitrifies the clay and converts iron compounds into a dense blue-charcoal material. This vitreous structure gives the clay immense structural strength and legendary frost resistance.
As shown in our photos, each reclaimed blue saddleback wall coping displays rich charcoal tones with subtle metallic sheens. Additionally, natural weathering marks, orange iron deposits, and remnants of mortar emphasize their authentic Victorian heritage.
The shallow apex profile sheds rainwater evenly off both sides of your walling. In addition, integrated drip channels stop water from seeping directly into the internal brick core.
Specifically, each blue wall coping unit measures 305mm wide to fit standard 9-inch garden walls. The linear length measures approximately 178mm, creating clean visual lines along wall tops. The central apex height reaches 100mm with a sturdy 25mm upstand at the square edges.
Currently, we stock around 2.7 linear metres (16 pieces), though available quantities change frequently. Furthermore, these units feature minor surface chips and discolouration consistent with genuine salvage condition grades.
First, selecting a reclaimed Victorian blue wall coping lowers embodied carbon by reusing original British engineering clay. Moreover, aged clay blends seamlessly into conservation projects and period property restorations without looking artificially new.
Dense Victorian engineering clay resists freeze-thaw cycles far better than modern concrete alternatives. Consequently, these robust coping units protect underlying mortar beds against severe spalling and winter weather damage. Ultimately, installing a genuine reclaimed weathered saddleback wall coping guarantees long-term structural protection and historic beauty.
