This huge reclaimed Yorkstone slab represents the absolute pinnacle of architectural salvage. Indeed, as a premium Cathedral grade piece, it displays stunning historic character and brings impressive visual impact.
This reclaimed Yorkstone slab likely originally served as the huge platform or top step at a grand stately home. Consequently, centuries of British weather have beautifully matured its surface. As a result, it features a lichen-spotted texture, chips and cracks, and authentic discolouration.
Landscape designers can use this huge reclaimed Yorkstone slab as a standalone garden patio or a magnificent portico entrance step. Additionally, homeowners will love how this unique focal point anchors an entire outdoor design scheme. However, it weighs almost 2 tons, ensuring an imposing presence but also a logistical challenge requiring plant hire. Above all, this huge slab requires proper installation.
Length: 2.5 metres
Width: 1.24 metres
Depth: Up to 23 centimetres
Weight: Approximately 2 tonnes (2,000 kg)
Grade: Cathedral Grade native British sandstone
Because installing a huge reclaimed Yorkstone slab requires heavy machinery, specialist lifting straps, and meticulous ground preparation, we recommend professional help.
1.Excavate the Ground:Heavy Machinery Required.
Dig the area to a depth of 40cm. However, ensure you clear all soft soil, roots, and organic matter completely.
2.Lay the Sub-Base:Compaction Layer.
Infill with 15cm of Type 1 MOT aggregate. In addition, compact this thoroughly using a heavy mechanical vibrating plate.
3.Pour Concrete Base:Structural Support.
Pour a 10cm steel-reinforced concrete pad. Crucially, this layer prevents the massive Yorkstone slab from sinking or shifting over time.
4.Apply Mortar Bed:Full Adhesion.
Before laying the slab, spread a full 5cm bed of high-strength, semi-dry sand and cement mortar across the cured concrete foundation.
5.Lower the Slab:Precision Placement.
Mechanical cranes must slowly lower the huge Yorkstone slab onto the fresh mortar bed. Obviously, you should check levels constantly until flat.
Investing in massive salvaged stone elements offers significant advantages for premium property developments:
Instant Maturity: You gain a weathered patina that new stone cannot replicate for decades.
Exceptional Value: Rare, large-scale historical pieces consistently hold or increase their financial value.
Environmental Responsibility: Reusing architectural materials saves immense energy compared to quarrying and processing new stone.
