Description

Plain Crested Ridge Tile Red Clay 18″ <80°

Reclaimed terracotta Plain Crested ridge tiles offer a practical and characterful solution for both roofing projects and creative landscaping uses. Used in roofing for centuries, Terracotta is  strong, resilient and brings an attractive natural colour. Made from fired red clay, it provides excellent durability and weathers beautifully over time. This natural material resists frost and rain, while allowing a roof to breathe, ensuring long lasting performance.

A ridge tile sits at the highest point of a roof, covering and protecting the joint between two slopes. It ensures the roof remains watertight, while also completing the roofline visually. Plain Crested ridge tiles come with a simple upright crest along the apex, without decorative detailing. At 18 inches long and set to an 80 degree pitch, these tiles suit to roofs with a moderately steep angle. The pitch is the most important factor when choosing a ridge tile, while length and height can vary without affecting compatibility.

Because these are reclaimed ridges, each terracotta tile shows signs of natural ageing. Moss, lichen, bird markings and subtle discolouration add layers of history to the surface. These features make them particularly suitable for repairs on older roofs, fitting easily with existing weathered materials. For new builds, this real ageing provides immediate character, ensuring the roof does not appear overly new. Every Plain Crested terracotta ridge tile carries unique weathering, so no two tiles ever look identical. This gives each installation an individual finish that cannot be copied with modern production methods.

Versatile Tiles

Beyond roofing, these versatile tiles adapt well to garden projects. They can lift plant pots, form rustic borders or integrate into larger water features. Their robust terracotta body makes the ridge tiles both decorative and functional outdoors.

Choosing reclaimed roofing materials reduces waste and supports sustainability, while delivering an authentic appearance. Using reclaimed Plain Crested ridge tiles not only preserves history, it also reduces demand for new terracotta clay. In doing so, they provide practical roofing solutions with added environmental benefits. Whether used on a roof or in a garden, reclaimed Plain Crested ridge tiles combine strength, character and sustainability in equal measure.
