Reclaimed Staffordshire Blue bullnose bricks combine traditional quality with practical function, making them ideal for both restoration and new-build projects. Staffordshire Blue refers to a hard, dense clay brick fired at high temperatures in a reducing atmosphere. This firing process gives the brick its deep blue colour and makes it exceptionally strong and water-resistant.
These bricks have long been used across the Midlands and beyond for engineering, landscaping and architectural details. Their durability and rich colour make them a favourite for areas where strength and appearance matter. Reclaimed Staffordshire Blue bullnose bricks retain these qualities while offering added texture from years of weathering.
Bullnose bricks feature one rounded edge, designed to soften sharp corners and add detail to architectural features. They differ from calf nose bricks, which have a smaller, more subtle curve. The larger radius of bullnose bricks gives a smoother finish around windows, steps and building entrances.
Each brick measures 8 3/4 inches long, 3 inches wide and 4 5/8 inches high. These dimensions make them ideal for capping walls, edging paths or framing doorways and window reveals. The rounded edge helps reduce chipping and wear, while also creating a clean, finished look.
Because they are reclaimed, these Staffordshire Blue bullnose bricks show signs of previous use. Indeed, you may find small chips, traces of old mortar and mild discolouration. This natural weathering enhances their appearance, giving projects an authentic, established feel.
Using reclaimed Staffordshire Blue bullnose bricks supports sustainable building practices. Reclaiming bricks reduces waste and avoids the environmental costs of manufacturing new ones. It also keeps quality materials in circulation, which is especially valuable with bricks as hard-wearing as Staffordshire Blue.
Reclaimed Staffordshire Blue bullnose bricks offer strength, longevity and visual depth. They’re a practical choice for heritage-sensitive work or for adding interest to contemporary designs. Whether used on steps, sills or wall edges, they provide a blend of durability and aged texture that new materials often lack. With these bricks, every piece carries a story and contributes to a project built to last.
Use with reclaimed Staffordshire Blue pavers as path edging to create an authentic Victorian garden path.
