This antique Ship’s Starboard Lamp, crafted from brass and copper, is a stunning relic of maritime history. Manufactured by Wm. Harvie of Glasgow in the late 1800s, this lamp exudes authenticity and charm. Its weathered aesthetic includes dents and a cracked lens (see photo gallery), which add character and tell a story of its seafaring past.
The green colour of this antique Ship’s Starboard Lamp signifies its purpose as a navigational aid on the starboard side of ships. In contrast, red lamps marked the port side, helping vessels avoid collisions during night time voyages. This attention to detail makes the lamp a beautiful example of historical functionality and design.
Although its original ship is unknown, this lamp has been thoughtfully converted for use with household 240v power. Now, it serves as a unique and functional decorative piece for homes or offices. Repaired and polished, the antique Ship’s Starboard Lamp would shine as a conversation starter and a nod to maritime tradition.
Reclaimed items like this ship’s lamp offer numerous benefits. They reduce waste by giving new life to old treasures, promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility. Additionally, reclaimed pieces bring history and authenticity to spaces, offering a character that mass-produced items cannot replicate.
This lamp’s brass and copper construction showcases the skilled craftsmanship of its era. Its durable materials ensure it will continue to serve as a long-lasting piece of décor. Whether displayed in a nautical-themed room or used as a standalone feature, this lamp adds warmth and heritage to any setting.
The imperfections of this antique Ship’s Starboard Lamp, such as its cracked lens and dents, further enhance its appeal. Indeed, these features create a sense of history and make it a truly one-of-a-kind artifact. By incorporating such a piece into your space, you celebrate maritime heritage while making a sustainable design choice.
Bring the allure of the sea into your home with this antique Ship’s Starboard Lamp. Its blend of history, craftsmanship, and functionality offers timeless appeal. Perfect for enthusiasts of maritime décor or collectors of unique antiques, this lamp is more than just a light—it’s a piece of history.
