Pitch Pine T&G Floorboards Reclaimed 7″W

Reclaimed American pitch pine t&g floorboards offer a robust and characterful flooring solution rooted in Britain’s building history. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, tongue and groove boards became increasingly popular across Britain. This method improved floor stability while reducing draughts between boards. As a result, pine tongue and groove flooring became a standard choice in both domestic and commercial properties.

American pitch pine, in particular, gained favour due to its density, resin content, and durability. It resists wear effectively and performs well in high traffic areas over long periods. Furthermore, its tight grain structure provides excellent dimensional stability when properly installed. These qualities explain the continued demand for reclaimed pitch pine t&g floorboards in both restoration and new projects.

Cut from reclaimed beams, these boards offer aged timber with proven structural integrity. Unlike typical boards, they feature tongue and groove joints on both the sides and the ends. This unusual detail creates a stronger, more secure connection across the entire floor surface. Consequently, reclaimed pitch pine t&g floorboards rely less on supporting joists and reduce movement over time.

Why Are Grooves Cut Into The Underside?

In addition, grooves run along the length of each board to improve performance. These grooves allow the timber to expand and contract naturally without causing distortion. Therefore, the risk of warping, twisting, or surface tension is significantly reduced. This thoughtful design enhances the long term reliability of reclaimed pitch pine t&g floorboards.

The planed surface reflects their origin from reclaimed beams, providing a smooth and consistent finish. With original boards becoming increasingly scarce, this method offers a practical and reliable alternative. Moreover, the boards are ready to accept oils, stains, or sealants suited to your interior scheme.

Choosing reclaimed timber also supports sustainable building practices by reducing demand for newly sourced materials. It helps divert valuable resources from waste while preserving the character of historic timber. In addition, reclaimed pitch pine floorboards often outperform new timber due to their age and natural seasoning.
