Antique Local Georgian Clamp Bricks with Frogs
We currently have a large quantity of wonderful, 200+ year old, Georgian-era handmade clamp bricks reclaimed from garden walls and outbuildings. The clamping of the brick mould creates the characteristic bulge across the middle of the brick face. They’re more than suitable for repairs and refurbishments, but are also suited to small structural projects such as garden and boundary walls.
These bricks are very rare due to the fact that most properties containing similar bricks are listed.
Brick Measurements: 8¾ – 9¼” L x 4¼” W x 3″ H
Please note, due to the historic handmade nature of these bricks, the age of the items and process of reclamation, there is some variation in the size of the bricks within each pallet, along with imperfections and wear marks.

Georgian handmade clamp bricks bring genuine period character to modern projects while supporting sustainable construction practices today. During the Georgian era, brickmakers shaped local clay by hand and squeezed them in individual clamped moulds before drying each brick beside temporary field kilns. Workers then stacked unfired bricks inside large ‘clamps’, where burning coal and ash hardened the surrounding clay. This traditional firing method created varied temperatures, so every brick developed individual markings, tones, and surface textures.
Georgian handmade clamp bricks still display those natural differences, which machine production cannot accurately reproduce today. Minor surface folds remain visible because craftsmen once pressed soft clay into timber moulds using skilled hand techniques. Colours range from soft pinks to deep reds and burnt oranges, which reflect uneven firing within traditional clamps. Small size variations also appear throughout each batch, therefore reinforcing the authentic appearance of reclaimed historical materials. These bricks also have early versions of ‘frogs’, indentations in the tops of the bricks.
Georgian handmade clamp bricks offer impressive durability because these reclaimed materials have already survived British weather for generations. Current regulations prevent reclaimed bricks from receiving formal frost resistance certification, despite their proven long-term performance. However, these antique bricks remain suitable for repairs, refurbishments, retaining walls, and many smaller structural garden projects. They also create striking boundary walls, decorative features, and robust pizza oven surrounds with genuine historical character.
Georgian handmade clamp bricks introduce movement and texture across completed brickwork, rather than producing flat, uniform surfaces. Consequently, every finished wall encourages conversation because the varied appearance immediately attracts attention from visitors and neighbours.
Reclaimed building materials also reduce landfill waste, which supports environmentally responsible construction without sacrificing visual interest. Furthermore, reclaimed products decrease demand for newly manufactured bricks, therefore reducing energy consumption and industrial resource extraction. Many homeowners and landscapers prefer reclaimed materials because authentic aged surfaces complement both traditional and contemporary outdoor spaces.
These Georgian clamp bricks provide practical strength alongside distinctive visual variation, making every construction project feel genuinely established.
