These reclaimed Acme Robur clay roof tiles offer a practical and proven roofing solution used widely across the UK. They are machine-made plain red clay tiles designed specifically for pitched roofs on traditional and modern homes. Red clay works perfectly for roofing because it breathes naturally, sheds water efficiently, and performs reliably in changing British weather. Additionally, clay resists frost damage, maintains strength over decades, and ages without structural failure.
These red clay Acme Robur roof tiles feature a smooth face and lie flat when installed, ensuring consistent coverage and weather protection. Each tile measures a standard 10 1/2 inches high by 6 1/2 inches wide, fitting common UK roof specifications. They include a double nib and two nail holes, which allows secure fixing and compatibility with existing battens. Often, roofers intermix them with Rosemary tiles during repairs, making sourcing reclaimed examples especially valuable.
The colour range moves from soft orange through to deeper red, with natural variation created by firing and age. Over time, exposure produces gentle weathering, which helps new work blend seamlessly with surrounding tiles. Currently, these clay Acme Robur roof tiles remain coated in dirt from previous use and require a simple wash before installation. Patches of lichen and aged discolouration remain visible, giving an established appearance straight away. Therefore, they suit repair projects where matching existing roofs matters most. Alternatively, they add a heritage feel to new builds without artificial distressing.
We currently hold approximately 10,000 tiles, enough to cover an average four bedroom house roof comfortably (check live quantity listed). Using reclaimed roofing materials reduces waste and lowers demand for new clay extraction. Moreover, reclaimed tiles already proved their durability through decades of real-world exposure. This history removes uncertainty about long-term performance.
Choosing reclaimed materials also cuts embodied carbon compared with newly manufactured alternatives. As a result, projects become more environmentally responsible without compromising quality. The Acme Robur roof tiles remain a dependable choice of clay roofing for builders, architects, and homeowners alike. They combine consistent sizing, proven clay performance, and visual continuity across old and new roofs. Ultimately, reclaimed roofing supports sustainable building while preserving regional character.
