Cast Iron Tractor Jacks- Pair

This pair of antique cast iron tractor jacks brings industrial heritage and visual weight to any outdoor or interior setting. Each jack has its own story, with one made by T W Worsdell in the late 19th century, and the other by R C Gibbins & Co. in the early 20th century. Worsdell’s firm eventually became Gibbins, linking the two pieces through shared manufacturing history.

Cast iron has been used since the 15th century for tools, machinery, and structural elements. Its durability and ability to hold detailed forms made it ideal for industrial applications. These cast iron tractor jacks, built for strength, use a central screw mechanism to lift heavy vehicles. Iron bars, inserted through holes at the top and turned with force, raise the jack incrementally.

Though untested today, these jacks carry the evidence of hard use. Surface corrosion, deep scratches and age marks give them undeniable authenticity. Their weathered appearance adds a grounded presence, whether displayed in a garden, on a patio, or within a converted industrial space. Standing 29 inches tall at their lowest and weighing 30 kilograms each, they create an immediate sense of history and solidity.

Historical Garden Features

Using reclaimed cast iron pieces like these brings texture, meaning and sustainability to a space. Unlike newer decorative items, these cast iron tractor jacks were built for function and have earned their wear. Their age adds depth, while their substantial form works beautifully among plants, gravel or reclaimed brick.

As a sculptural pair, they offer more than nostalgia. These cast iron tractor jacks remind us of the materials and mechanics that shaped our modern world. Their presence, though still and rusted, speaks to motion, purpose and time passed. For those seeking structure, weight and historical resonance, reclaimed tractor jacks offer something truly distinct.
