Reclaimed Blue Gully Bricks offer a unique combination of durability, heritage, and sustainability. Made from Etruria Marl clay and fired at high temperatures, they exhibit the signature deep blue hue of Staffordshire Blue bricks. These rare bricks serve a practical function while adding character to outdoor spaces.
Staffordshire Blue bricks have a long history in British construction. First produced in the 18th century, they gained prominence during the Industrial Revolution. Their strength and low porosity made them ideal for heavy-duty applications, including railway engineering, canal linings, and street paving.
The manufacturing process involves firing high-quality Etruria Marl clay at extremely high temperatures in a low-oxygen environment. This process vitrifies the clay, creating a non-porous, frost-resistant brick with exceptional durability. Consequently, the result is the rich blue-black colour that defines Staffordshire Blue bricks.
Reclaimed Blue Gully Bricks share the same benefits as traditional Staffordshire Blue bricks. Their dense composition makes them incredibly strong, resistant to frost, and highly durable. Indeed, their non-porous nature prevents water absorption, reducing the risk of cracking in harsh weather conditions. Moreover, these qualities ensure they remain functional and visually appealing for decades.
Reclaimed Blue Gully Bricks were traditionally used to channel water away from driveways and pathways. Their efficient drainage capabilities make them an excellent choice for managing surface water. Alternatively, they can be incorporated into garden water features, adding an authentic and historic touch.
Measuring 12″ long, 6″ wide, and 3″ high, these bricks offer versatility in design. Whether used for drainage solutions or decorative landscaping, they provide a flexible and reliable option for various projects.
Choosing Reclaimed Blue Gully Bricks supports sustainable construction by reducing waste and preserving natural resources. Reusing existing materials minimizes landfill contributions and lowers the carbon footprint associated with new brick production. Additionally, reclaimed bricks retain their strength and character, offering an eco-friendly alternative without compromising quality.
The visible signs of age, including minor chips and discolouration, enhance their charm. These imperfections tell a story, adding depth and authenticity to any project. By repurposing Reclaimed Blue Gully Bricks, builders and homeowners can achieve both practical and environmental benefits while preserving the craftsmanship of the past.
