These reclaimed Staffordshire Blue stable gully bricks offer the opportunity to create a unique patio drainage system. Alternatively, they make a great garden irrigation system, or an equally individual garden water feature.
Staffordshire Blue represents the pinnacle of historic British brickmaking, famous across architectural history for its incredible density and strength. Craftsmen shape these heavy-duty paving units using mineral-dense Etruria Marl clay sourced directly from West Midlands deposits. Afterwards, brickmakers fire the clay blocks inside specialized kilns at exceptionally high temperatures under strict atmospheric controls. During intense reduction firing, oxygen deprivation converts natural iron oxides within the clay into dense ferrous oxides. Consequently, this chemical reaction transforms the raw clay into a metallic, blue-black block with non-porous surface qualities.
These dense clay blocks easily resist severe frost cycles, heavy vehicle weights, and constant exposure to standing rainwater. Furthermore, authentic blue stable gully bricks offer non-porous surfaces that prevent moisture absorption and structural deterioration over generations.
This reclaimed batch features straight channel sections designed to pair seamlessly with classic 9-inch stable pavers. Each individual unit features a central concave channel that collects and redirects surface water along driveways or garden pathways efficiently.

Specifically, each paver measures 9 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 3.18 inches deep, weighing approximately 7kg. Furthermore, matching these channels directly to 9-inch stable pavers makes creating a coherent, well-drained courtyard layout a simple affair.
Salvaged directly from an authentic stable conversion, these units display consistent aging characteristics across the entire available batch. Naturally, each individual piece displays gentle wear, environmental staining, and small historic edge chips from decades of farm use. Additionally, several blocks carry residual lime mortar along their outer sides, which you can clean easily using a brick hammer. Incorporating blue stable gully bricks brings genuine heritage texture and rich industrial character to modern outdoor landscape projects.
Installing matching surface drainage channels solves practical rainwater runoff issues while preserving period-accurate aesthetics throughout your property layout. Alternatively, creative garden designers frequently use these channelled clay units to build custom garden irrigation channels or decorative water features.
Design Applications:
├── Traditional Courtyard Drainage (Pairs with 9" stable pavers)
├── Eco-Friendly Garden Irrigation (Directs water to plant beds)
└── Architectural Water Features (Cascading garden rills)
Furthermore, directing rainwater through blue stable gully bricks towards border plantings creates an eco-friendly irrigation system for home gardens. Naturally, incorporating blue stable gully bricks into your design adds unique practical value and timeless visual appeal simultaneously.
Choosing reclaimed historical clay materials offers distinct environmental and structural advantages compared to newly produced concrete alternatives.
Carbon Reduction: Reusing historic building materials avoids heavy industrial emissions required during modern clay manufacturing processes.
Unrivalled Durability: Vitrified Etruria Marl clay resists cracking, chemical attack, and heavy frost far better than modern concrete.
Historic Aesthetics: Real age creates an authentic vintage patina that artificial reproduction paving cannot replicate successfully.
Consequently, reclaimed landscape features remain increasingly popular among landscape architects, heritage property restorers, and discerning homeowners alike. However, high demand means these sought-after blue stable gully bricks will not remain in our yard for long. Contact our team today to reserve your batch before stock runs out completely.
