These reclaimed Handmade Blue Quarry Tiles offer a durable and distinctive option for floors, paths, and patios with genuine character and long-lasting performance. Originally developed in the 19th century, quarry tiles became a staple in Victorian homes, factories, and public buildings. Their durability, low maintenance, and visual strength have kept them in demand for generations.
These Handmade Blue Quarry Tiles are made from Staffordshire red clay known as Etruria marl. They are fired in a low-oxygen, high-temperature kiln to produce the deep blue colour unique to Staffordshire Blue. This process also creates a dense, hard surface with excellent resistance to wear. Their high crushing strength and low water absorption make them ideal for high-traffic areas and outdoor use.
As reclaimed materials, these reclaimed blue tiles show signs of age, with patches of staining, weathered edges, and a soft patina that speaks of their history. Some tiles have minor chips and marks from previous use, which adds depth and interest to finished surfaces. Reclamation leaves a layer of fine, stubborn dust on the surface. A simple power wash removes it and reveals the colour and quality beneath.
Each of these Handmade Blue Quarry Tiles is handmade, so no two are exactly alike. However, they remain consistent enough in size and finish to form a cohesive and visually pleasing floor. The 4-inch format offers excellent flexibility, especially in tight or complex spaces. When combined with 4-inch red quarry tiles, they allow for creative patterns and striking contrasts.
Using reclaimed paving like these Handmade Blue Quarry Tiles brings clear environmental and design benefits. Reusing materials avoids landfill waste and reduces the energy needed for new production. At the same time, reclaimed tiles introduce a depth of character that new materials cannot replicate. Builders and designers value them for their strength, sustainability, and unique appearance.
In both modern and period settings, reclaimed Blue Quarry Tiles provide a practical, weathered surface that lasts for decades and stands out for all the right reasons.
