Keele Handmade Roof Tiles are reclaimed terracotta tiles with a rich past and proven performance. Each bears the ‘Keele’ mark on its underside, identifying Staffordshire as its place of origin. This region played a key role in Britain’s ceramic history, known for producing durable and attractive clay building materials.
Made from terracotta clay, Keele Handmade Roof Tiles offer excellent weather resistance. Fired at high temperatures, terracotta becomes strong, water-resistant and breathable. Indeed, it helps regulate moisture, preventing build-up and damage under the tiles. Furthermore, this natural material performs well in all climates and requires little maintenance.
Because these tiles are handmade, they feature slight variations in shape, colour and thickness. These differences give depth and texture to any roof. Moreover, their reclaimed nature enhances this character further. Years of exposure have added surface markings, patches of lichen and gentle discolouration. These signs of age create a weathered patina that no modern tile can match.
Keele Handmade Roof Tiles measure 10½ inches long and 6½ inches wide. This is a standard tile size in the UK, which makes them ideal for mixing with other similar tiles. Combining batches adds contrast and texture while staying practical and secure. The result is a one-of-a-kind roof that feels considered and full of character.
Despite their age, these Keele Handmade Tiles remain strong and functional. Their survival proves their ability to handle wind, rain and frost. They continue to protect buildings effectively, even decades after their first use.
Using reclaimed roof tiles has clear environmental benefits. It keeps high-quality materials in use and out of landfill. It reduces the energy and raw materials needed for new production. Transport distances are often shorter too, cutting carbon emissions.
Terracotta Keele Tiles offer both visual depth and proven durability. Their history adds value while supporting sustainable building choices. Whether used alone or mixed into a larger project, Keele Handmade Tiles bring texture, colour and purpose to any roof.
