Description

Reclaimed Belfast or Butlers Sink 43″L x 10″H x 24″D (Damaged)

This reclaimed Belfast or Butlers sink is a striking, substantial piece with strong character and long history. Measuring 43 inches long, 24 inches wide and 10 inches deep, it offers generous capacity for practical or decorative use. It features an integrated overflow at the plughole end, typical of traditional Belfast design.

Belfast sinks first appeared in the 18th century and were designed to suit the needs of busy kitchens. Made from fireclay and fired at high temperatures, they offer durability and strength. The main difference between a Belfast and a Butlers sink lies in the overflow. Belfast sinks include one to prevent flooding, while Butlers sinks—originally used in London—often omit this feature to conserve water.

This reclaimed Belfast or Butlers sink shows signs of its age, with damage in two places on the rim—one on the inside edge, the other outside. However, the bowl remains structurally sound and holds water without issue. Easily sealed using suitable materials, the damage doesn’t affect the sink’s structural integrity.

Alternative Uses

Due to its size and history, this sink suits life outside or in a working garden setting. Use it as a boot wash, dog bath, greenhouse sink or even a bold planter. The weathered surface and aged glaze enhance its authentic appearance, making it a natural fit in rustic or informal spaces.

Using reclaimed Belfast or Butlers sink units helps reduce waste and gives new purpose to heritage materials. Despite visible wear, these sinks are built to last, and they continue to offer functionality. Choosing reclaimed also reduces the need for new manufacturing and cuts your project’s environmental impact.

The reclaimed Belfast or Butlers sink brings a grounded, practical feel to any space. Its presence tells a story of past use while offering fresh possibilities. Whether in a garden, utility room or greenhouse, it offers lasting value and dependable performance. With some care and imagination, this sink becomes much more than just a fixture—it becomes part of your environment’s evolving history.

Set the sink into a support of reclaimed bricks to create a unique garden workstation.
