Calf nose bricks have a curved end with a wider radius and more softly contoured profile than bullnose bricks.

Traditionally, these bricks were used to soften the corners of agricultural buildings to prevent animals from injuring themselves. They were therefore used on all four corners of brick supporting columns and on the edges of arched openings. Similarly, they can be found in industrial and mill buildings on corners where moving machinery might get caught and damage brickwork. For modern buildings, calf noses look especially effective used on corners of openings and brickwork pillars.

Calf nose bricks can also be used as window sills but we recommend sealing with two coats of RBS Hardseal clear sealant when laid flat to protect the bricks from water.

Our extensive range of Brick Specials includes new (class A and concessions) and reclaimed bricks. Concessions are fully compliant with building regulations but have been purchased as seconds due to minor aesthetic imperfections, allowing us to offer them to customers at large discounts. They are ideal either where products won’t be seen or a variable, non-standard appearance is desirable.

We also have various new, handmade brick specials. These are new, handmade bricks traditionally made in moulds that replicate the appearance of reclaimed bricks but are reliably available in larger quantities. They are frost-proof and made with authentic colouration and a distressed face for a convincing reclaimed look.
