Reclaimed English Elm Floorboards Various Lengths

These reclaimed English Elm floorboards, recovered from a 16th Century Warwickshire farmhouse, bring historical authenticity to any flooring project. Each board tells a story of age, wear, and daily life. The surface shows signs of its past—nail holes, faded paint, and the occasional scratch or chip. This natural patina gives the boards a rustic character that’s hard to imitate with new wood.

English Elm is now rare due to Dutch Elm disease, which decimated native populations in the 20th century. As a result, reclaimed English Elm floorboards have become increasingly difficult to source. Elm is a strong and resilient hardwood, making it ideal for flooring. Its interlocking grain resists splitting, while its dense structure handles foot traffic with ease.

Sold by the square metre, these reclaimed English Elm floorboards cover around 22 square metres. They vary in width and length, offering an organic, natural layout. The boards have a worn surface that can be refurbished to reveal the wood’s warm tones. The grain of Elm often displays sweeping curves and rich patterns, adding interest underfoot.

The underside of each Elm floorboard has a rough sawn finish. With careful sanding, even this hidden surface could be brought into use if needed. Moreover, this flexibility gives you more options when planning your floor. Restored reclaimed wood offers its original beauty without losing its past.

Historical Authenticity

Using reclaimed English Elm floorboards supports sustainable building practices. Indeed, you help reduce the demand for fresh timber and avoid the environmental impact of new harvesting. At the same time, you bring history and authenticity into your home or project.

These boards have lived through decades of use and are ready for the next chapter. Whether in a period restoration or a contemporary design, reclaimed Elm floorboards offer real depth and texture. With some care and treatment, Elm floorboards bring warmth and heritage to any interior space. This is not just flooring—it’s a piece of English history, repurposed and ready to live on.
