These reclaimed red plinth stretcher bricks feature a distinct chamfered, or sloped, edge along the long side. Builders use these specialised profiles to create a neat, projecting ledge at the base of a building. This architectural feature cleverly sheds rainwater away from the vulnerable main foundation.
Our current batch of reclaimed red plinth stretcher bricks showcases beautiful early UK metric craftsmanship from the late 1960’s. The Cwmbran Brick Company manufactured these specific pieces near Newport in South Wales. Founded in the late 19th century, this historic Welsh brickworks operated on Llantarnam Road where Cwmbran Stadium stands today. Local workers sourced high-quality clay to produce robust, reliable construction materials for the thriving region.
Length: 21cm
Width: 10cm
Height: 6.5cm
Sizing Standard: Standard UK metric (these cannot be mixed with older, larger Imperial-sized bricks)
Origin: Cwmbran Brick Co., South Wales
Please Note: These are standard UK metric bricks. Therefore, they will not align with older Imperial brickwork.
These reclaimed red plinth stretcher bricks benefit from being machine-made rather than hand-moulded.
Uniformity: Machine extrusion processes ensured highly consistent dimensions for every single run. Furthermore, their consistency improves build time.
Structural Integrity: This automated manufacturing method produced incredibly dense and frost-resistant bricks. Additionally, it allows the use of frogs to reduce weight.
Ease of Laying: Precise, straight edges allow your bricklayer to achieve clean, tight mortar joints during installation. As a result, ease of use helps reduce budgets.
Opting for historic, reclaimed components brings substantial advantages to your renovation project:
Seamless Blending: New bricks often look too bright and stark next to historic walls. Conversely, the weathered faces of these reclaimed red plinth stretcher bricks blend beautifully with existing masonry.
Eco-Friendly Choice: Reusing old building materials lowers your carbon footprint. In addition, it saves existing bricks from becoming rubble or landfill.
Genuine Patina: Each piece features minor chips, historic marks, and slight surface discolouration. Moreover, these lovely imperfections tell a story of prior use.
You do not have to limit these reclaimed red plinth stretcher bricks to traditional wall construction. For instance, they make excellent feet for large terracotta garden planters. This clever arrangement raises your pots off the damp ground. Consequently, it promotes proper soil drainage and significantly reduces troublesome ant activity underneath.
With their superb Welsh heritage, these reclaimed red plinth stretcher bricks will prove highly popular. Please contact Watling Reclamation today to discuss your project requirements before this unique batch sells out.
