Description

Reclaimed Tuscan Quarry Tiles: Mediterranean Style

Bring Mediterranean warmth to your property with these exceptional reclaimed Tuscan quarry tiles. Measuring 290mm square and 12mm deep, these beautiful clay tiles work perfectly across interior floors. However, you can also install them in light footfall exterior settings with proper sealing.

Sun-Drenched Character and Tones

These quarry tiles feature a premium orange base clay, which is lighter than standard terracotta. Consequently, the surface displays a breathtaking range of orange, yellow, and buff tones. This natural variation ensures that every single installation remains completely unique.

Furthermore, the generous 290mm size allows you to cover large areas much faster than standard 6-inch tiles. Meanwhile, the 12mm depth conducts heat perfectly, making them ideal for modern underfloor heating systems.

As genuine salvaged materials, these reclaimed Tuscan quarry tiles show authentic signs of age and prior use. Environmental discolouration, minor edge wear, and faint lichen marks pepper the surfaces. This weathering emphasises the individuality of each tile while proving its immense durability. Therefore, DIY homeowners and professional landscapers can easily add sunny character to established gardens and interiors.

The Benefits of Reclaimed Tuscan Quarry Tiles

Choosing reclaimed Tuscan quarry tiles offers distinct advantages over modern mass-produced alternatives:

  • Eco-Friendly Design: Using reclaimed tiles conserves natural resources and prevents good materials from entering landfill sites.

  • Instant Maturity: These tiles add immediate character and history to cold, new renovation projects.

  • Superior Strength: Having survived decades of use, these durable Tuscan quarry tiles resist wear exceptionally well.

  • Unique Aesthetics: No two tiles look identical, which creates a bespoke floor full of visual interest.

Installation Guide: Step-by-Step

To achieve a long-lasting and beautiful finish, you must follow these proper installation procedures carefully.

Step 1: Subfloor Preparation

First, ensure your substrate is completely rigid, level, and dry. Concrete subfloors require a damp-proof membrane and an acrylic-based primer. Alternatively, timber floors need rigid 6mm to 12mm tile backer boards fixed with flexible adhesive and screws.

Step 2: Setting Out and Laying

Because these reclaimed Tuscan quarry tiles feature slight size variations, you should use wider 6mm to 10mm grout lines. First, lay out a few rows to check your pattern. Avoid edge cuts smaller than half a tile.

Next, mix a cement-based tile adhesive and apply it with a notched trowel. Butter the back of each tile with a thin layer of adhesive. This technique ensures 100% solid coverage and prevents future cracking. Press the tiles down with a slight twisting motion, then insert your spacers.

Step 3: Sealing and Grouting

To avoid permanent staining of these light coloured quarry tiles, apply a protective sealer before you start grouting. Wipe away any excess sealer immediately. Once dry, force a wide-joint flexible floor grout into the gaps. Clean excess grout off the tile faces immediately using a damp, frequently rinsed sponge.

Step 4: Finishing

Once the grout becomes firm, polish the floor with a dry cloth to remove any remaining cement haze. Finally, apply a final coat of sealer after the full curing time. This coat protects your reclaimed Tuscan quarry tiles from dirt, water, and household spills.
