Reclaimed Yorkstone Hearth (Sold per Square Yard)

A reclaimed Yorkstone hearth stone brings history, texture and authenticity to any interior. Quarried throughout Yorkshire, Yorkstone is a natural hard sandstone, a durable stone worked for centuries. Celebrated for its dense grain, Yorkstone has varied colouring and is able to withstand both weather and heat. As a result, these qualities make it an ideal material for hearth stones, which must resist high temperatures and retain structural strength. The natural mineral content within Yorkstone gives it subtle tones of buff, grey and gold, allowing it to complement a wide range of interiors.

Essential in homes heated by open fires or stoves, hearth stones have a long history. In traditional houses, large slabs of stone protect the surrounding floor from the fires above. A reclaimed Yorkstone hearth stone continues that tradition, offering both practical protection and aesthetic value. Essentially, each piece is cut thick enough to endure direct heat from a log burner or open flame, ensuring lasting performance.

Weathered Patina

These hearth stones are reclaimed from use as old porch paving and display clear evidence of age and history. Their surfaces show gentle discolouration, worn edges and small areas of moss growth. This natural weathering creates an aged patina that new stone cannot match. As a result, each reclaimed Yorkstone hearth stone carries unique character formed by years of use.

Weighing over 100 kilograms, each stone needs a solid, pre-prepared bed before installation. Sold by the square yard, a combined set covers just under two square metres, making them suitable for larger fireplaces or hearth designs. Their substantial weight and durability ensure a stable and enduring base.

In period properties, a reclaimed Yorkstone hearth stone blends effortlessly with existing materials, adding authenticity and depth. In modern interiors, it offers a warm, natural contrast to sleek surfaces like glass, metal or concrete. Reusing reclaimed materials also supports sustainability by reducing quarrying and waste. A reclaimed Yorkstone hearth stone therefore provides both environmental benefit and genuine historical texture, making it a striking and durable foundation for any fire feature.
