Red and Blue Quarry Tiles (Handmade)
Historically, British builders used both red and blue quarry tiles to create hard-wearing surfaces in high-traffic areas. These tiles create the classic chequerboard pattern made popular in Victorian times, and still provide a most durable flooring surface. With warm tones, this batch of flooring brings heritage looks and practical functionality when used with underfloor heating.
Dimensions- each tile is 6″ square x 1″ thick. (15.2cm square x 2.54cm thick)
The batch covers 14sqm. Sold only as a batch.
Please note, due to the nature of production, the age of the items and process of reclamation, there are likely to be imperfections and wear marks.

Historically, British builders used both red and blue quarry tiles to create hard-wearing surfaces in high-traffic areas. Manufacturers originally crafted these tiles from local clays during the Victorian era. Consequently, North Wales became a world-renowned hub for this industry.
These specific handmade red and blue quarry tiles bear the famous “Dennis Ruabon” name stamped on the reverse side. Therefore, this mark proves their authentic origin from the historic town of Ruabon. Today, these classic tiles retain immense popularity because they combine nostalgic charm with unmatched structural longevity.
Extremely Durable: They naturally resist heavy foot traffic, impacts, and scratches over decades of continuous use.
Thermal Efficiency: The dense clay absorbs heat exceptionally well, making them ideal for modern underfloor heating systems.
Moisture Resistance: They withstand spills effortlessly, which makes them perfect for busy kitchens, hallways, and utility rooms.
This single-source batch covers 14 square metres, which easily fits a standard room measuring 10 feet by 15 feet. Because the collection contains both red and blue quarry tiles, you gain excellent design flexibility for your flooring project. For example, you can arrange these reclaimed bi-colour quarry tiles into a striking, traditional chequerboard pattern.
Furthermore, each handmade tile measures exactly 6 inches square by 1 inch thick. This robust thickness allows you to install these reclaimed chequer quarry tiles outdoors as well as indoors. However, we strongly recommend that you seal the red and blue quarry tiles thoroughly for any external installations. For lighter visual appeal, check out this smaller batch of red and buff chequerboard quarry tiles.
Choosing salvaged materials significantly reduces the environmental impact of your project by diverting premium clay products from local landfills. Additionally, these salvaged tiles offer a unique aesthetic that new factory alternatives simply cannot replicate.
Since we recovered this entire batch from a single property, the authentic weathering remains beautifully consistent across the floor. Consequently, you can use them to patch existing historic floors or blend them seamlessly into modern building refurbishments. Whether you use them in a renovation or a new build, they bring instant heritage character to your home.
Please note: All tiles require a thorough clean to remove historical residue prior to installation.
