Reclaimed extra large glazed blue brindle saddleback wall copings bring practical protection and historic character to any brick or stone wall. Wall copings first appeared on early masonry structures to stop water from penetrating joints. Builders continued to use them as brickwork spread because they protect a wall’s core while giving it a finished profile. This long tradition remains relevant today, and these pieces follow the same principles.
Makers form these copings from dense Staffordshire Blue clay, which they fire at very high temperatures. The firing process vitrifies the clay and creates a hard, almost stone-like body. It also produces a smooth surface that absorbs little water and resists frost. As a result, the copings stay stable in harsh weather and cope well with heavy use. This material gives each piece strength, reliability and a very long working life.
The blue brindle colour of these saddleback copings comes from firing the clay in a carefully controlled low oxygen atmosphere. Iron in the clay reacts during firing and creates deep blue tones with subtle violet notes. Lighter reddish streaks form the brindle effect, which adds variation and visual depth. This colour works beautifully with both modern and period brick walls.
These glazed blue brindle saddleback wall copings measure 18 inches long and 17 inches wide, with a height of 7 inches and a 2½-inch upstand. Inset drip channels at half an inch help direct water away from the wall face. The size makes them suitable for walls up to 14 inches wide. Their traditional saddleback profile sheds water efficiently and suits repair or refurbishment of established walls. It also gives new walls a classic and confident look.
Because these pieces are reclaimed, they show chips, marks and traces of old mortar. You can remove the remaining mortar with a brick hammer. The ageing creates a genuine historic patina that adds depth to any outside space. These glazed blue brindle saddleback wall copings work well on stone boundary walls, where they reflect the strength of the structure beneath. They also suit low retaining walls that need a traditional finish.
Using reclaimed materials reduces waste and preserves valuable resources. It also adds character that new items rarely achieve. These glazed blue brindle saddleback wall copings offer durability, heritage and practical performance in every piece.
