Blue Plinth Header Brick 2½″ (PL.2.2) Reclaimed
Brick measurement: 8¼” L x 4″ W x 2½” H with 1″ upstand
These reclaimed plinth headers are machine made engineering bricks. They are a traditional Staffordshire blue with a weathered surface.
Plinth bricks — plinth stretchers and plinth headers — <strong>are used in single or double courses to change the depth of the brickwork. This can be at the base of buildings or walls for added stability or at any height for aesthetic effect.
Plinth stretchers are also typically used for window sills, in brick pillars and as wall copings.
Plinth headers are normally used in conjunction with plinth stretchers, or as windowsills similarly to cant or sill bricks.

These reclaimed blue plinth header bricks are machine-made engineering bricks. They bring the distinctive Staffordshire blue finish and naturally weathered surfaces. Each brick measures 8¼ inches long, 4 inches wide and 2½ inches high, with a 1-inch upstand. Known for their strength and density, these blue plinth header bricks are both practical and visually striking.
A header brick is laid with its end, the short face, exposed on the wall surface. When made as a plinth brick, it forms part of a stepped brick course. Used in single or double courses, Plinth bricks, including stretchers and headers, change the depth or projection of the wall. This technique is often found at the base of walls and buildings to provide added support. It can also appear higher up the wall for decorative emphasis or to cap a feature. Blue plinth header bricks continue this use.
Made from Etruria marl clay and fired at very high temperatures in a reducing atmosphere, Staffordshire blues are a uniquely durable brick. As a result, this firing process creates the brick’s deep blue tone and its water-resistant properties. The result is a hard, dense brick with excellent resistance to frost, wear and moisture. These qualities make the blue plinth header ideal for exposed locations or wet environments.
These blue plinth header bricks have many practical and creative uses. Traditionally, they form sills, pillar caps, and wall copings. Their angled upstand makes them perfect for shedding water, especially along horizontal surfaces. In garden settings, they serve well as structural supports under large planters. Laid vertically and properly backed, they make effective raised border edging.
Using reclaimed materials like these blue plinth header bricks supports sustainable construction. It reduces waste and conserves resources, while bringing visual depth to your project. Each brick has unique weathering, reflecting years of use and exposure.
Whether for structural stability or subtle visual detailing, the blue header remains a versatile and reliable choice. These bricks offer a proven combination of strength, durability and character, ready for reuse in modern or traditional settings.
