Reclaimed Staffordshire Blue Victorian Path Edgings with a humped 3 circle design bring historic character to outdoor spaces. Made from Staffordshire blue clay, these edgings date back to the late 19th century. Produced mainly in the Midlands, they were a staple feature of Victorian front gardens and public paths. Their strong ceramic body and rich blue tone came from firing the dense clay at high temperatures in a reducing atmosphere.
The purpose of Blue Victorian Path Edgings was both practical and decorative. Indeed, they neatly bordered paths and lawns, helping retain gravel or soil. The humped 3 circle design echoes the popular wave top form, but with added detail. Each hump contains a neatly pressed circle, giving more texture to the facing side. The rear side remains smooth and undecorated.
To create these path edgings, clay was shaped in moulds, then fired in coal-fired kilns. As a result, this process produced hardwearing edgings able to withstand decades of outdoor use. These reclaimed Staffordshire Blue edgings have seen years of weather and wear. Additionally, they show some surface discolouration, moss, lichen, or the occasional chip. These features speak of their past and add a sense of depth and history.
Each tile measures 7½ inches wide and 7 inches tall. They are designed to be half-buried in the ground for stability. This makes them ideal for path and lawn edging. However, they are not suitable for raised borders unless properly supported.
Using reclaimed Blue Victorian Path Edgings is also an environmentally sound choice. It keeps valuable materials from landfill and reduces demand for new production. This helps lower carbon emissions and preserves finite natural resources. Reclaimed hard landscaping supports a circular economy and offers a more sustainable way to landscape.
With their detailed face and weathered finish, these Blue Victorian Path Edgings provide both beauty and strength. They connect modern gardens with the craftsmanship of the past. Each piece tells a story, offering texture, durability and a touch of history across your garden.
