Description
Reclaimed Pine Floorboards Square Edge 6″W
These reclaimed square edge pine floorboards offer history, character and practical durability in equal measure. Carefully salvaged, they bring genuine industrial heritage into contemporary interiors. In fact, these boards began life as roof boards within the former Norton Grinding Wheel Company factory in Welwyn Garden City. Built in the 1930s, the factory housed these boards in place for decades.
As a result, the timber has developed a rich surface patina. Years of natural ageing have deepened the colour and enhanced the grain. Consequently, these reclaimed square edge pine floorboards display warmth that newly milled timber cannot easily replicate. Subtle marks and tonal variation tell a story of honest industrial use.
Pine remains a superb material for floorboards, especially reclaimed. It offers strength while retaining flexibility, which helps absorb daily movement. Moreover, pine machines and finishes well, making installation straightforward. Its pronounced grain creates visual interest without overpowering a room. For these reasons, home owners and designers continue to favour pine flooring.
These particular boards are rough sawn and square edged, without a tongue and groove joint. That detail reflects their original use as roof boards. Therefore, they suit period refurbishments where authenticity matters. Equally, they work beautifully in new builds seeking a traditional aesthetic. The reclaimed square edge pine floorboards provide a practical solution when original period boards prove scarce.
Each board measures six inches wide and three quarters of an inch thick. Lengths vary, which allows for flexible laying patterns. With careful preparation, planing and sanding, you can achieve a smooth, comfortable barefoot surface. A suitable varnish or oil will further protect and enhance the timber.
Reclaimed, Sustainable
Like our reclaimed parquet flooring, reclaimed square edge pine floorboards support sustainable building practices. Reusing existing timber reduces demand for newly felled wood. It also prevents valuable material from entering the waste stream. Furthermore, older pine often comes from slower grown trees, producing tighter grain and improved stability.
With reclaimed original pine flooring increasingly difficult to source, these boards offer a convincing alternative. The reclaimed square edge pine floorboards combine affordability with an authentic aged finish. Ultimately, they deliver character, durability and environmental responsibility in one considered flooring choice.
