This authentic reclaimed batch of red and blue chequerboard quarry tiles provides historic charm for traditional property renovations. You will receive 253 tiles in total, comprising 132 red and 121 blue tiles. Together, these tiles cover an area of approximately 6 square metres. Each tile measures 6 inches by 6 inches with a 1-inch thickness (15.2 cm x 15.2 cm x 2.5 cm) and weighs 2.2 kg. To cover a larger area, combine with this batch of blue/red quarry tiles.
Craftsmen manufacture the Staffordshire Blue clay used in this chequerboard pattern, using local iron-rich clay fired at extreme temperatures in a low-oxygen kiln environment. Consequently, this reduction firing process transforms the clay into a distinctive dark blue-grey hue throughout its body. Therefore, the material achieves exceptional density, low porosity, and extreme resistance to heavy wear, moisture, and frost.
Similarly, manufacturers produce red tiles using high-fired terracotta clay. Firing terracotta at high heat creates a dense, hard-wearing tile structure. Furthermore, this durable surface naturally resists daily foot traffic, scratches, and impact in busy household environments. Additionally, high-fired terracotta retains thermal warmth efficiently, making it an excellent partner for modern floor heating solutions.
Furthermore, these reclaimed red and blue chequerboard quarry tiles exhibit a genuine historical character built over decades of use. The surface presents a rich, weathered patina with subtle pitting, minor surface inclusions, and distinct calcification markings. In addition, traces of residual mortar remain on individual pieces from salvage extraction. These authentic signs of age guarantee a unique heritage floor layout.
Additionally, these red and blue chequerboard quarry tiles suit a wide array of heritage design schemes:
Interior Flooring: Perfect for hallways, kitchens, sculleries, pantries, utility rooms, and hearth surroundings in period restorations.
Exterior & Semi-Outdoor: Ideal for porches, pathways, conservatories, and covered garden spaces due to dense, weather-resistant clay.
Design Aesthetic: Excellent for Victorian, Edwardian, cottage, farm, or heritage projects requiring an authentic two-tone floor design.
Moreover, choosing reclaimed red and blue chequerboard quarry tiles delivers outstanding practical and environmental advantages:
Sustainable Choice: Reusing salvaged materials reduces landfill waste and eliminates carbon emissions from manufacturing new tiles.
Unmatched Authenticity: True historical character and depth cannot be replicated by modern imitation floor products.
Proven Longevity: Dense, traditional quarry clay has already endured generations of heavy use and will last decades more.
