This classical statue was handmade in the UK and depicts an elegant archer. Inspiration for the statue was likely to have been taken from the classical form Eros, the Greek god of love and desire who was often portrayed as slender, youthful figure with wings. He is often represented with a bow and arrow that he used to incite love in anyone he or Aphrodite wished.
The use of lead to make statues and other garden features became popular in the 17th and 18th centuries as more and more garden designers sought to recreate the more formal french style landscape. Young English gentlemen had been introduced to a myriad of classical sculpture when on their “Grand Tours” in Italy and France and they came back with plans to emulate this on their own estates.
With its elegant proportions, this delicate figure will add a classical touch to romantic settings, either indoors or out.
The stone base measures 46cm x 46cm x 23cm high.
